Explanations You should prefer a pair to a high card, even if that pair is of low value. You have more chances of making a three of a kind than making a new ranking hand with your high card. You should prefer keeping a high pair over trying to make a Flush or a Royal Flush when you have only four of the cards needed. You should prefer keeping three cards that can make a Royal Flush over an existing low pair and even over four cards that can make a Flush, because of the very high payoff of Royals. If your five initial cards aren't good, to hesitate to draw all of them.
