Courtesy In Online Poker
Most poker courtesy is common sense, try to be polite and respect other players at the table.
They might not be 'rules' per se, but etiquette is important nonetheless.
Make Sure You Understand the Rules
There are few things that annoy good poker players more than playing with someone who just doesn't know the rules of the game.
Not that it's wrong to ask a question or two about the rules during a poker game. But the assumption is that everyone around the table is "on the same page". Given that there are many variations to poker, make sure you know the exact rules of the specific game you wish to join.
How to Join an Unfamiliar Game
If you wish to "explore new worlds", we would certainly encourage you to do so - but also add some helpful advise.
Let's say that you've never played a game of seven Card Stud poker, and desire to do so now. Great.
Start off with reading information about the game, so you understand how the game works and what its rules are.
Then go online to find a poker table that plays Seven Card Stud.
For your first games, join a table which doesn't require real money bets.
The reason for this is two- fold: so you won't waste your money while learning and that the other players won't be annoyed with you if you make beginners mistakes. People tend to be more patient toward new players when their money isn't at stake.
Don't be a Chatterbox
People don't like to go into long chats when playing a game of poker.
They come first and foremost to play, not to mingle and make friends.
This is all the more true when talking about online poker.
The people who are playing with you online chose to stay in their houses and play in an anonymous fashion.
Be very careful and sensitive about using the chat features of online poker.
Though it is there for the purpose of chatting, different players like to use it differently.
If you chat in length and people answer you briefly, just let it go.
When it's your turn, make sure to play and not to chat and socialize.
Remember that the number one interest of the people around the table is not the name of your cat but the size of your next bet.
Don't Waste Time
When playing online poker, it is important that players don't waste time. Since there are sometimes delays due to Internet problem, most online poker games allow a player to have 30-60 seconds by which his action should be completed. Some of them also enable players to decide and choose their next move prior to their turn, thus saving time for everyone.
