Poker Online Bluffing

Introduction

The term "poker face" is used all around the world. What this actually means is when a poker player bluffs his opponents to think that he has a higher-ranking poker hand than what he actually has. Players who are good at making poker faces and using them at the right moments will manage to make their opponents first raise their bets and then drop out of the game before the showdown - thus leaving the poker faced player to rake the whole pot.

Each poker player has a unique bluffing technique. Try to learn from others, but most important: practice your poker faces and soon you will develop your personal style.

It is obvious that bluffing online is different than "live" bluffing. However, both are possible'; it is simply a matter of using different techniques. Here are a few tips on "how to bluff online":

  • Focus on Betting and Raising

  • When bluffing live, the main thing to work on would be your faces and body language. When bluffing online, the main thing to work on is your bets and raises. It is through them that the other players will get the impression whether you have strong or weak cards, whether you play tight or take risks, whether you are new to the game or an experienced poker player, etc.

  • Remember to Fold When Needed

  • What can you do, you can't win them all. Not all your attempts to bluff will succeed. Sometime other players will have much better hands, and other times they will be better bluffers. If you don't want to waste your money in vain, call "fold" if you see that your opponent is playing a real hard game.

  • Don't Try Bluffing in Crammed Tables

  • The more the players, the less chances of everyone folding, and the less chances of pulling off a bluff. Just think: if there are seven players around the table, there's a good chance that at least one player has a really good hand. That player won't fold and will aim for a showdown (which is obviously not good for a bluffer, who would loose a show of hands).

  • Vary Your Strategies

  • Some poker players always use the same bluffing strategy. At some point the other players catch on, and their technique becomes useless. Make an effort to vary your bluffing strategies. No more tips are needed - play and you'll discover the ways in which you, personally, are able to use bluffing in a poker game.

  • Be Careful in Hi/Lo Games

  • In a poker game that is played Hi/Lo, the pot may be split between the player with the highest ranking hand and the player with the lowest ranking hand. In such instances, players will be less likely to fold hands, because they stand a chance of winning the pot even when they've got low ranking hands. Be careful when playing Hi/Lo poker, your chances to make everyone else fold are small.
