'Times of the Civil War' - new book
It happened on several occasions approaching the 4th of July weekend. The New York Times and the Charleston Mercury, opposite sides in the book 'Times of the Civil War', seemed to join forces to take the book to Amazon's Best Seller List. the book about the Civil War coverage by the two American journalism giants, gamely rose to a hairbreadth of its place in the sun, time and time again, only to be brushed back by unseen forces. "It was a total surprise that the book, a Civil War book at that, rose the way it did" said author Don Bracken. "Usually, a book with a PR machine and a huge sales force does things like that. 'Times of the Civil War' apparently did it on word of mouth alone". "Times of the Civil War" is a book that looks at the Civil War with a threefold perspective, that of the special correspondents of the New York Times, the correspondents and writers of the Charleston Mercury and the modern day historian. "It gives the reader an understanding of what the citizens on both sides of the War were thinking, or at least were being told, and what the reality was as seen by the modern day historian" said Bracken.
