500 Halo2 Teams Jump In To Vie for $2,500 Prize Pool
Team Compete today announced another growth milestone with the pace at which new teams are being created to compete in the Halo2 Open League Play. Since the team registrations were opened on Friday 29 October, over 500 teams have been created. Team Compete had previously announced a $2,500 prize pool to split among the play off teams for the inaugural Halo2 season set to kick off on 9 November when the game becomes available. It appears that the prize pool combined with the long anticipated launch of the game is having very positive effects on the Xbox Live community at large. Previously games would be opened for registration immediately prior to their launch. With the anticipated growth and popularity of the game, Team Compete pushed the registration back to accommodate the expected demand. But the demand has exceeded all previous games. We usually have several hundred teams engaged and playing within a week of the launch of a new game, said the Veeg, founder of Team Compete. This time, however, we have seen over 500 teams created in less than a week and the game isnt even out yet. We thought the growth was fast with Rainbow Six but this far surpasses anything we have seen in the past year. Were looking forward to the inaugural season, thats for sure! Registration and eligibility for the inaugural season remain open until an announced cut off date which is generally mid way through the 3 month league season. There is PLEANTY OF TIME for teams to join and participate in the first Halo2 season. Team Compete has also taken the opportunity to update and upgrade their proprietary challenge system and support portals prior to the Halo2 launch to better serve the large number of new members anticipated. New features we have been looking to provide are being launches with the Halo2 site and will be added to future games as well, according to the Veeg. The Team Compete Open League (TCOL) is open to holders of a valid Microsoft Xbox Live Gamertag and is free to use both the competition site and the communications forums. Additional private playing leagues are also offered by Team Compete in the Team Compete Pro League (TCPL) where the Halo2 league is being launched with a $25,000 prize package.
