What is a "button"?
A "Button" in poker games is a round disc, which is used to determine which of the players will act out as the dealer for a specific round. After the round is over, the button will move clockwise and be handed to the person on the left. The player with the button is given the right of last action in the first round of bets. (He can decide to give up that right.) Moving button and dead button:
There are two ways to use button and blinds. 1. "Moving button" - the button moves to the next player and the blinds move in accordance to it. This method prevents a player from having an advantage over other players by being the last player to make a bet, two times in one round. This advantage is significant especially in pot-limit and no-limit games. The method of moving button also speeds up the game because it allows a situation in which two blinds are made in one deal. 2. "Dead button" - the big blind moves to the next player and the small blind and button move in accordance to it.
Both methods are legitimate. To make things clear and simple a card-room may decide to use just one method in all of its games or to determine a certain method for each type of poker game.
