P'

PASS
(1) Rejecting the possibility of placing a bet. Only in a game of pass-and-out a player who passes must drop out of the hand.
(2) Rejecting the possibility of calling. In all games this leads to a player having to drop out of the hand.

PASSIVE - When a player chooses to call or check, as oppose to raising or betting.

PAT - When a player in a draw game chooses to not draw a new card.

PLAY BEHIND - When a player who brought new chips starts playing a game before the chips were actually given to him.

PLAY THE BOARD - In a game of Texas Hold'em, making a hand with five community cards.

PLAY OVER - To take another player's seat in his absence.

PLAY OVER BOX - In a situation of play over, a clear box which is put over the chips of the player which is absent.


POCKET - All the down cards.

POSITION - A player's location in regards to the button and the blinds or in regards to the order of playing in a round.

POT - The pile of money or chips in the center of the table, which the players contribute to during each round and which will be given over to the winner at the end of a hand.

POT-LIMIT - A game in which the size of bets is limited by the size of the pot.

POTTING OUT - Deciding together with other players to take out some money from the pot in order to buy something (food, drinks) or in order to make side bets.

PROPOSITION BETS - Side bets which have nothing to do with the hand being played at present.

PROTECTED HAND - A hand of cards that the player is physically holding, or has topped with a chip or some other object to prevent a fouled hand.

PUSH - Replacing the table's dealer with a new dealer.

RACK -
(1) A tray holding the chips and the cards, used by the dealer.
(2) A box where poker chips are kept when being moved from one place to another.

RAGS - Cards which are worth very little in a game.

RAISE - To make a bet which is bigger than the biggest bet made so far in the round.

RAKE - A relatively small portion of a pot, which is collect by the poker room.

RE-RAISE - To raise another player's raise.

RIVER - The last card which is dealt.
